Handbag Clinic receives hundreds of high value designer bags, many worth more than into its Burnopfield repair workshop every week, where they are lovingly cleaned, resprayed and restitched.Last year managing director Ben Staerck took the precaution of installing high security measures, including creating a double door cage entrance into the workshop, to keep the expensive bags safe.Now the clinic has been significantly expanded to cope with demand for its high end restoration services.The firm an offshoot of the Furniture Clinic leather repair business has expanded the floor space by 15%, to 3,800 sq ft, capacity that is vital following steady growth at the firm, which has recently opened a store in Mosley Street, Newcastle, following an earlier launch on King’s Road, Chelsea.Handbag clinic on Mosley Street, NewcastleOver the past 12 months, the firm’s restoration experts have brought 6,500 handbags, worth an estimated back to their former glory. The business also runs a service to restore red soles of Christian Louboutin shoes.Mr Staerck’s wife Charlotte has also joined the business as handbag buyer along with three new apprentices, as part of a recruitment drive to employ two new members of staff every month to ensure it has the skills needed to deal with designer accessories from the likes of Chanel, Herm and Celine.The firm is bucking the trend in the luxury goods market.
